Town Assessor

Stella Gittle

An assessor is a specialist who calculates the value of property. The value calculated by the assessor is then used as the basis for determining the amounts to be paid or assessed for taxes. The Town of Mohawk's assessor is an appointed official charged with determining the value of each taxable property in our Township; this information is then used to determine the necessary rate of taxation to support the community's annual budget.

Our mission is to serve the taxpayers by efficiently valuing and assessing all real estate for municipal and school tax purposes. Our department maintains the assessment rolls, tax maps, and real estate registry of the ownership for all real estate in the Town of Mohawk. We strive to provide useful information and courteous service to the public.

Stella Gittle has served as the Chairperson for the Elected Board of Assessors in the Town of Glen and has been a member of the New York State Assessor's Association since 2000. She became a New York State Certified Assessor upon the completion of the required state courses in 2001 and a State Certified Assessor Advanced in 2003.

Courses completed for certification include Assessment Administration, Introduction to Real Estate Appraisal, Valuation Principles and Procedures, Introduction to Income Property Valuation, Fundamentals of Equalization, Mass Appraisal and the Reassessment Process, Land Valuation, Data Collection, Sales Data Management and Farm Appraisal.

Stella graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Hartford in Connecticut in 1984 where she obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Photography.
